I really like you blogg so far, and this post in particular. Working at warner bros records I am caught in between the business side that wants to monetize everything, and my peers in the digital communities who want to give it away for free everytime. There are no absolutes, and one advantage I have is i work on a lot of projects and get to test things. Its amazing to me how the debates always focused on a singular answer. The digital bloggers must defend free and corporate must mandate we charge for everything. Even Ian Rogers of topspin, who is a smart guy proclaims "Streaming sells Records". It's just not the case everytime and there are many variables including but not limited to:
genre of music
type of record (is it a body of work or collection of singles)
Timing
other things happening in the marketplace
where it's streamed
are you collecting the data for everyone who streamed it!

hope this debate gets more real, and less posturing from each side - jeremy
