from About.com Music Careers:

Gigs aren't cheap. Not by a long shot. On a small scale, sometimes you can work out a deal with club to play for free and do some promotion yourself, but in most cases, even small, indie shows need some kind of budget. There's the cost of printing up posters and flyers, maybe the cost of renting the venue - and that's if you keep everything to the bare minimum. Depending on the size of the show, there might be additional advertising costs, the cost of gear rental and more. So - who pays? Does the promoter foot the bill? Should the musicians count on shelling out?

well, if the show STINKS........it is YOU that will pay the price. you have to take responsibility for all of this, all of it all of it all of it. There is just too much at stake for you not to. So, who cares who technically SHOULD do the flyers - if the promoter doesn't - it is you that will look bad in front of (at best) friends and family and the guys from the other band who always seem to play to more people than you....at WORST, oh shit - thats Kevin Lyman fromn the Warped tour leaving the venue....at least he doesn't have to fight his way through the crowd....ooooops.....geddit?????
